Chiang Mai Go-Go Bar and bastion of the muscleman, Circle Pub will be closed tomorrow, 28 July for one night. Everywhere else should be open as normal though.

One of Chiang Mai’s most sophisticated gay-friendly venues, Soho Bar is an excellent place to socialise in pleasant convivial surroundings. It boast a street-side bar and a tastefully-decorated and relaxing interior lounge area. The location, on Huay Kaew Road, by the Kad Suan Kaew Shopping Complex makes it easy to get to, and a popular venue with Chiang Mai’s gay expatriates living near by.

Soho is friendly and fun with outgoing, handsome staff; perfect for meeting friends, indulging in conversation and enjoying fine wines or cocktails. Open at 12 noon as a coffee shop, Soho’s full bar service starts at 5 p.m. until Late. Food is available from the nearby Lemon tree restaurant.

Outgoing Owner, Scott Taylor, is a well known, popular personality around the ex-pat gay and social scenes Chiang Mai. Originally from Pennsylvania, and more recently Ventura California, Scott first came to Thailand in 1987 as a tour manager. After many years of bringing tour groups here, he chose to make his presence in Chiang Mai permanent and since 2008 he has been running Soho Bar, which he has transformed into an inviting and sumptuous lounge, whilst retaining an upmarket Thainess to the atmosphere. Whilst many of the clientele are gay visitors and exp-pats, this is very much a neighbourhood bar where Scott attracts all comers with his affable personality.

We wish Scott all the best with his future plans. If you can’t get along to the party on Friday, Scott will be staying on to help the new owners through their first week so there is still time to drop in and say hi.

I assume you mean the party is on the 29th? Friday is the 29th … the 27th is a Wednesday

I’ve put this on our website and wish Scott, Rabbit and Shauna all the best in their new ventures.

  2. James says:

Do you mean the meet and greet with new owners is this Friday, 29 July?

  3. BonTong says:

Yes, apologies for the mistake – Friday 29th July. Have now corrected the text above.

  4. Shauna And Krathai says:

Hi everyone, I know all will be sad to see Scott move on, but with a little coaxing between vacations we can just maybe get him to hang out with us regularly. We will strive to continue building the atmosphere Scott has created; all the while my bringing in the flavor of New Orleans and Krathais Northern flare for life we hope to create a a fun yet relaxing environment. Krathai and myself look forward to meeting everyone.

Scott has been a great help to me on several occasions with suggestions and directions. We had a very nice conversation the first time I walked in off of the street, without him knowing me from Adam. It’s going to seem odd not seeing him there next time, but I wish him (and the new owners) the best of luck.
