Although originally scheduled for 9th November, and much delayed by the flooding around Bangkok, yesterday finally saw the Royalflora Ratchaphruek 2011 expo in Chiang Mai open it’s doors to the public. The Expo, located to the South West of the city in Tambon Mae Hia, covers 80 hectares of landscaped gardens and exhibitions nestling at the foot of the mountains. It provides a lush and refreshing display of colourful plants and flowers and greenery from Thailand and 30 countries.

The events are also very special occasions for the Thai nation and the Thai people as they commemorate the auspicious 84th Birthday of His Majesty the King (the 7th 12-year cycle of life in Asian tradition) and the 80th Birthday of Her Majesty the Queen. Due to the prominent role played by agriculture in Thai economic, social and cultural life, both Their Majesties have spent their lifetimes for the cause of environmental sustainability, water and nature conservation, poverty alleviation. All their efforts over the years will be highlighted at the Expo.

If you are visiting Chiang Mai between now and 15th February 2012 be sure to fit a day into your schedule to go and visit Royalflora Ratchaphruek 2011. Best to plan it early in the day when the flowers are at their best.
