Secrets Bar is moving

Secrets Gay Bar Chiang Mai

Latest news update from the the Chiang Mai bar scene is that Secrets Bar will close at its current location off the moat, on Wednesday July 29, 2015 pending re-opening in a new location.

We understand that Khun Oh, the owner of Secrets Bar has been looking to find a better location for sometime now and has seized the opportunity to sell the existing bar as a going concern. However, he plans to develop a new brighter, venue with a more pleasant and comfortable ambiance in the Night Bazaar area where Secrets has it origins.

After eight and a half years in three different locations Khun Oh is looking forward to both the break and the challenge of getting the new venue operational as soon as possible, something he hopes will take no longer than two months to complete. Khun Oh stressed that “Secrets is not deserting it’s loyal customers” and truly hopes he can rely on Chiang Mai’s gay compatriots for their continued support. The new venue will be a “thank you” for all the support, loyalty and encouragement they have shown to Secrets Bar in the past.

From it’s origins back int the old Night Bazaar, Secrets Bar, now at it’s third location, has become a popular stalwart of the Chiang Mai gay scene and this well run operation has always managed to maintain the tricky balance between a fun and friendly bar and somewhere that customers could feel safe and relaxed in a mixed company of both foreign tourists, ex-pats and friendly younger local guys. Secrets moved to its latest location in April 2013 after their landlords terminated the leases for all the bar at the previous Night Bazaar location.

This change for Secrets Bar comes in what has been a very tough period for the social gay scene enjoyed by foreigners in Chiang Mai. The last three months have already seen the closure of Ram Bar and Radchada Garden Cafe, whilst at least one more well known bar is known to be struggling. Secrets’ current neighbor, CU Bar has also been closed for several weeks now. We therefore wish our friends at Secrets Bar all the best and hope that this migration back to the Night Bazaar area where there is still a nucleolus of gay bars will be a positive move both for Jhun Oh and for Chiang Mai’s gay community.
